Beniatjar is a small, inland village with only 250 inhabitants. It is largely a farming community inside the protected area called the Ombría del Benicadell. From the village there is a path to the top of the Benicadell mountain.

It is located in the south of the province of Valencia, where the Benicadell mountain range forms the border between the provinces of Alicante and Valencia, and is a mere half hour away from the beaches of Gandía, Oliva, Daimús, etc.

Due to its Arabic origins, the village has the characteristic narrow winding streets and cul de sacs of the Moorish epoch.
